It’s great that Wix sites now load a thumbnail of images first, and then the full images. But if I use well-compressed jpg files, the automatic thumbnail is a png which is actually bigger in size than the final image. This especially happens on mobile.
Also, when I upload a well compressed webp file and add it to my website, wix servers will automatically enlarge it to about 10x the size. for a well-compressed JPG it adds 10-20%. All of these seem to happen both in Wix and Editor X. And only for X: if I use an image on Editor X of a pixel dimension of 320x320, and view it on mobile, it will be enlarged in pixel dimensions by about 1.5-2x and size 5x-10x
These bugs are a bit when trying to make a site faster. Wix site load speeds could be much better if the images would be better managed. Maybe could there be a safety mechanism where images are only optimized when they actually become smaller. And some a choice whether they are enlarged in pixel dimensions in Editor X. (and maybe another option to choose whether they require further optimization)
